Red-necked Grebe (Podiceps grisegena) - 13Mar2015

This is a species that can be irruptive, meaning they can just show up out of nowhere (the great white north in this case) and all of a sudden be found all over.  2015 was an irruptive year and we had them on the OBX, the piedmont and even the mountains.  Some people think it was due to the freezing of the great lakes that year.

This one was seen at the Oregon Inlet Marina.
