Black Vulture (Coragyps atratus) - 20Jan2019

Here is a species that is ever present but rarely is photographed by me at least.  Vultures in general are under-appreciated and yet so important for the ecosystems.  They are the cleaners of dying and decaying matter and do a good job of removing all the road kill or at least tidying it up.  Thankfully it seems the new world vultures are in relatively good shape with some species actually thriving as a result of human impact.  The same cannot be said for old world vultures which are frequently the victim of poisoning either directly or indirectly.

This Black Vulture was circling close to my house.
