Northern Jacana (Jacana spinosa) - 03Jan2017

Not sure how it took me so long to get this species since they are around in Costa Rica.  These were seen at Soplillar in Cuba. Some text from one of the Cornell sites:

It is a bird of marshes. Their toes and nails are adapted for walking on floating vegetation. These birds have been named "lily-trotters". The female usually copulate with several males during the reproductive season. The male cares and rears to chicks.
