Laughing Gull (Leucophaeus atricilla) - 19Mar2014 and others

The quintessential gull of southeastern North Carolina.  If you don't see one you probably hear one.  As the name implies they have a maniacal laugh.  Here is an old photo from Fort Fisher, NC where the bird already was in full breeding plumage in March.


Here is a photo from Tarpum Bay Eleuthera.


And finally a weird one from Fort Fisher that had a very red bill.
