As the Latin genus confirms, this little "bee" hummingbird is a different genus and species than the White-bellied Woodstar which also shares some of the same habitats in the Andes. It shares the Genus Philodice with the Magenta-throated Woodstar which is seen in Costa Rica and Panama. We had the Purple-throated Woodstars in multiple locations in Colombia but perhaps best seen at the famous Montezuma Rainforest Lodge.
