One of those birds that has a twin brother on the west coast of Costa Rica that is a different species. This one was photographed in the Caribbean Lowlands in Sarapiqui and so it is a Red-throated Ant-tanager. The west coast bird is the Red-crowned Ant-tanager. I have seen them on both coasts. However, in the Yucatan in Mexico, they seem to mix which is frustrating. The males are a little tougher to differentiate, but the female Red-throated has a much more contrasting throat.
