Santa Marta Blossomcrown (Anthocephala floriceps) - 03Aug2019

There used to be only one Blossomcrown but a paper written in 2014 made the case for splitting the Santa Marta Blossomcrown from the Tolima Blossomcrown it led to the official splitting. They are certainly separated geographically and are not mixing. The Santa Marta Blossomcrown is in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta range of northeast Colombia and the Tolima Blossomcrown being in the Upper Magdalena Valley in southwest Colombia.  These two populations might as well be separated by an ocean.  Luckily I have seen both, but unfortunately my looks of the Santa Marta one was fleeting and the picture needs to be improved.
