Henslow's Sparrow (Ammodramus henslowii) - 06Aug2017

This used to be a very hard bird to find in NC.  The only places it could reliably seen was the VOA site near Washington, NC and some have seen them in North River Farms in Carteret County.  Both of these locations are off limits to the general public....until now.  The VOA site has opened up and been bought by the state.  Hopefully they will keep the habitat in good shape for this specialty sparrow that is very particular.  They like low shrubby fields with wet ground, and the VOA site has plenty of this.

This bird was seen at the VOA site and was still singing in August.
