Short-billed Dowitcher (Limnodromus griseus) - 02Oct2016 & 02Aug2017

Dowitcher ID is tough but I think I am starting to get it.  This one was found in a fresh water pool after a rain on the OBX but contrary to conventional knowledge, it was a Short-billed.  The relatively short bill with a downward kink, the loral angle and the "tiger striping" all point to Short-billed.

Here is one from Wrightsville Beach in non-breeding plumage.
