Two Bits and a Dip (11-18Mar2021)

A couple of trips to the beach haven't really bagged anything interesting but the numbers of laughing gulls and terns are increasing.

This past weekend I made the trip up to Carteret County to try for a couple birds.  I intended to hit Pringle Rd in the Croatan at first light for Woodcocks but got there 10 min too late.

Somehow I didn't have a Blue-headed Vireo picture for the year yet so this was nice to see.

Bachman's Sparrows are already singing on territory.

The real target for the day was Ring-necked Pheasant at Cape Lookout.  Matt W and I hoofed it all the way from the lighthouse to the souther point and back through the dunes with nothing to show for it except for some Savannah Sparrows and a Peregrine Falcon, but it was good to scout it out.  Next time I will bring my truck on the car ferry out of Davis and head north.

Its a beautiful beach with minimal people and almost no traffic even though you can drive on it.

This morning a couple Bonapartes were getting their Little Gull impressions on but the wing tips gave them away.

Hmm, what to do this weekend?
