Great Horned Owl (Bubo virginianus) - 14Jan2017 & 31Mar2018

I have seen tons of these big boys in NC but for some reason I lack decent photos.  I kind of like this shot as his face is framed by the twigs which is pretty typical of the views afforded.  Finding them is as easy as listening for a huge murder of crows and following the sound.  This one was at Carolina Beach State Park, NC.


Here is a gray faced subspecies in Colorado at the Chico Basin Ranch.
