The Gilded Hummingbird is found in the areas surrounding the Pantanal of South America. I saw mine at Pousada Aguaupe in the south of the Pantanal where it was feeding on firecracker and other red flowers near the hotel pool. It shares its genus (Hylocharis) with the Rufous-throated Sapphire which has some overlap but mainly lives north of the Gilded Hummingbird. In my first photo you can see where it gets its name with the gold colored tail.
