Greater Sage-Grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus) - 26Mar2018

Seeing these amazing birds display out in the middle of nowhere on the plains of northern Colorado ranks up there with one of the most amazing experiences I have had.  We arrived an hour before light and it did not take long to hear their crazy mating calls shortly before dawn.  Then seeing them perform their rituals, inflating throat sacks and bumping each other for mating rights was otherworldly.
