This is a troublesome species to differentiate from the Taiga Bean-Goose in the Netherlands where both can winter, but Tundra is the much more common of the two. Luckily, if you are looking at an adult bird, it is easier to tell the two apart.
The orange band on the bill of an adult Tundra is usually more restricted than the orange-yellow area on the bill of an adult Taiga.
The bill of a Tundra is also heavier and shorter looking.
Next time I am in the Netherlands or anywhere in Europe in the winter, I will spend more time looking for a Taiga in the flocks.
