Bee Hummingbird (Mellisuga helenae) - 31Dec2016

This little Cuban endemic is the smallest bird in the world, although there is a similar sized Bumblebee Hummingbird in Mexico which is just a hair larger.  Locally it is known as Zunzuncito.  These were photographed in the yard of a man that has a large flowering bush that the birds love and of course he has also set up some feeders.  They were having New Year festivities when we showed up and the music was super loud but the birds did not seem to mind.



Female - for scale, those berries were about the size of a small blueberry.


The next day we went back for another look...
