American Flamingo (Phoenicopterus ruber) - 06Jan2017 & 18Apr2019

The first ones I saw were down in Cuba, but I got much better looks when in the Yucatan.  The boat guide that took us out of Rio Lagartos actually told us that a number of years ago after a hurricane, all the American Flamingos left the area and went to Cuba staying for several years before they were seen again. Now they are numerous, although I wonder how they fared in the recent hurricanes.  The next few photos are from Rio Lagartos.




Flamingos were all over the north coast of Cuba but we never got very close.  These were on Cayo Guillermo.  I hear that some of the recent hurricanes decimated these flocks...
