Williamson's sapsucker (Sphyrapicus thyroideus) - 24Dec2022

This bird had eluded me for far too long.  I had visited its preferred habitat in Ponderosa Pine and Douglas Firs before but always came up empty.  That was until my family trip to the Grand Canyon in 2022.  I heard this male many times before I was able to track it down.  Apparently in the 19th century several ornithologists thought the male and female were different species because they look do different. 

Now to improve on the pictures...
