Chestnut-eared Aracari (Pteroglossus castanotis) - 12Aug2022
There are so many species in South America that are ripe for splitting into multiple species based on regional differences. This is one of the many. Chestnut-eared Aracaris in Ecuador look quite different from the ones in Brazil for example. The ones in Ecuador have bright blue facial skin around the eyes, whereas the ones in Brazil look more like these ones photographed in the Pantanal. I am looking forward to seeing their Ecuadorean brethren.
