This endemic brushfinch was split out from the Stripe-headed Brushfinch based on differences in vocalizations as well as morphologic and genetic differences. It inhabits the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta in the northeast of Colombia. This one was photographed on the grounds of the El Dorado Lodge.
