This critically endangered Colombian endemic is only found in a very small area near the town of San Pedro de los Milagros. It was only formally described to science in 2007. The guy who discovered it after returning from church is the same local guide that brought us to the spot in his cow pastures. It is closely related to the Slaty Brushfinch complex, but is morphologically, genetically and vocally different.
