Red-breasted Meadowlark (Leistes militaris) - 11Aug2024 & 31Jul2019

This species is found in Central America and northern South America.  They used to be called Red-breasted Blackbird, but taxonomic studies found they were more closely related to other meadowlarks than they are to blackbirds.  I was able to see them on both of my trips to Colombia, but only in adult male plumage on the second trip which you can see in my first picture.  The second picture represents the females which have reddish tint to the belly and breast.  The juveniles look like females but are less red underneath.
