We had this species of brushfinch multiple times on my second trip to Colombia, always at relatively high elevation. They can be found from Venezuela to Peru in the Andes. My best photos below are from Termales del Ruiz which is a great spot for birding but also just relaxing in a thermal spa if you are into that kind of thing.
