Orange-fronted Parakeet (Eupsittula canicularis) - 01Dec2013

Orange-fronted Parakeets are a vulnerable species of parakeet that range from Mexico down to Costa Rica on the Pacific coast.  They had been impacted by the pet bird trade although it seems that threat has decreased over time and the good news is that they seem to be able to deal well with habitat degradation. This photo is one of my earliest bird photos as I was only just getting into birding at the time and my primary purpose for being in Costa Rica was surfing.
