Pygmy Nightjar (Nyctipolus hirundinaceus) - 06Feb2026

This is the speciality bird at Hotel Pedra dos Ventos in Quixadá and the main reason we went there.  This tiny nightjar is a Brazilian endemic and prefers stony outcrops in the far east of Brazil.  Our hotel hosted a couple of these that day roosts right in the middle of the hotel grounds next to the busy pool area.  Later in the evening after a rain storm, they became very active grabbing emerging insects that were escaping the rocks which were filling with water.  Unfortunately it was too dark to get a decent pic.
