This unique looking spinetail is endemic to northeast Brazil, which is where I saw this one in Guaramiranga. Unique because most spinetails have some rufous or brown coloring on their heads with just a couple exceptions. The males and females do not differ in plumage which is also unique for spinetails. There are 20 species in this particular genus.
