Black-capped Antwren (Herpsilochmus atricapillus) - 06Feb2026

Although this bird is not endemic to Brazil, I was bummed out when we saw it on our first foray to Pico Alto in the Gauramiranga region but I failed to get a picture because it was foggy and moved too quickly.  Luckily we went back the next morning to clean up some missed targets and I was able to get a shot.  This species can be found across a wide swath from Bolivia to Paraguay and Argentina and right across to the eastern side of Brazil.  We only saw it in this higher elevation spot but they can range to lower elevations.  There are 17 species in this genus.
