Yellow-faced Siskin (Spinus yarrellii) - 05Feb2026

Although this bird can be found in Venezuela, it is thought that population is from released cage birds.  So it can be considered a Near-endemic.  Its native range is far eastern Brazil and we saw it in the Guaramiranga area.  This is the bird that keeps up our guide at night because it is so unreliable and difficult to find.  My pictures suck because it was heavily backlit and stayed very high in the pine canopy.   It has a Vulnerable status per IUCN because it is exploited for the pet bird trade and deforestation.
