American Pygmy Kingfisher - 29Jul2019

Sometimes I wonder if bird guides work up the rarity of a bird so you feel special when you finally see it.  I certainly felt as if I was seeing a rare and reclusive bird when we saw this one.  Everyone was very quiet and solemn.  Now I see that they are actually not so rare or particularly shy.  Seen at Via Parque Isla de Salamanca on the road from Barranquilla to Santa Marta Colombia.  These tiny kingfishers are easily overlooked because they hang out in thick mangrove swamps.
