The next day dawned with much nicer conditions for our river boat ride on the oxbows of the Rio Pixaim. But first, some birds from around the property at the hotel...
This Cocoi Heron hunted next to the the boat launch.
Glittering-throated Emerald in the brush bordering the Transpantaneira.
Muscovy Duck
Picazuro Pigeon
Saffron Finch
Once on the river, it was nice to get on eye level with some of the more common birds.
Capybara
Wattled Jacana
Sungrebe - this sighting was far too fleeting. I hope to run into one of these again sometime soon.
Green-and-rufous Kingfisher - the folks in the front of the boat got great looks at this secretive Kingfisher. I was stuck in the back with these stick in the face views.
Green Kingfisher
American Pygmy Kingfisher
Amazon Kingfisher
We pretty much mopped up on Kingfishers.
Black-collared Hawk!
Rufescent Tiger-Heron
Rufescent Tiger-Heron
We looked hard for Agami Herons but came up short which is ironic because the tour company running the trip was called Agami Tours. Oops, a little embarrassing for them.
Lesser Kiskadee
Vermilion Flycatcher
Back at the hotel I went for some more walks around the property while others took a siesta.
Yellow-billed Cardinal
Roadside Hawk
Marsyas Hairstreak
Rufous Casiornis
Rufous-tailed Jacamar
Palm Tanager
Young Wattled Jacana
Chotoy Spinetail
Striated Heron
Snail Kite
We said our good byes and headed back out on the Transpantaneira for the grand finale of the trip which was to be a 3 day boat ride out of Porte Jofre to focus on seeing Jaguars and some other good river birds.
